9-Year-Old Killed in Denver City Car Accident

A 9-year-old Denver City girl is dead and a driver injured in the crash of a pickup truck south of Denver City in Gaines County.

Alyssa Vaquera died in the wreck early Saturday. The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Tomas Vaquera, was taken to the Lea County Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, suffering serious head injuries. Vaquera was reportedly the girl's father.

The Department of Public Safety said Vaquera's 2011 Ford F-250 was traveling east on U.S. 62 south of Denver City when the vehicle entered the median and rolled about 12:45 a.m. Saturday.
