Xcel Energy unveiled today their third generator, which will bring an additional 168 megawatts to their customers.

Jones Unit No. 3 has been feeding energy into the Xcel grid since June 30th 2011. That’s 11 months earlier and $27 million less than originally planned for the gas-fired combustion turbine.

The combined capacity of the three turbines is 654 megawatts, with one megawatt fueling 750 typical homes. Xcel serves most of the Texas Panhandle, South Plains, and eastern New Mexico regions. Xcel plans to open a fourth  generator of the same type next year.
