Wrong Way Driver Causes Accident on Loop 289

An overnight crash on Loop 289 in Lubbock has left one teenager dead.

The LPD released a statement this morning after the scene of the accident on Loop 289 and Indiana Avenue was resolved. According to police, at 2:55am Thursday morning a pickup truck with two occupants was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the loop when it collided head on with a car traveling eastbound.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Jonathan Pesqueda, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 26-year-old male driver of the pickup and his 22-year-old passenger were also taken to Covenant with serious injuries.

No word yet on whether alcohol was a factor in the crash or if charges have been filed.
