If you're thinking about moving to the Hub City of West Texas, then here's what you need to know.

Why It Looks So Weird

When you first move to Lubbock you get the feeling that something is missing, but you can't put your finger on it. The answer is billboards and signs. The city has very strict rules on billboards and signs. Admittedly, it gives the city a cleaner look, but it also makes the town look even flatter than it is.

Getting Around Is Easier Than You Think

Almost everywhere you will go will involve either Loop 289, Interstate 27, or the Marsha Sharp Freeway. Just think of it this way: the Loop goes around Lubbock, I-27 cuts across Lubbock, and Marsha Sharp goes through Lubbock. Plus, most of the streets are laid out from 1, 2, 3, or A to Z, so if Google Maps fails, you'll be okay.

The Regional Flavor

Tex-Mex, barbeque, and steaks are what you'll find most of. Of course, we have a lot of fast food chicken places and nearly every cuisine is represented, but none match the power of the big three here in town.

The Crime Rate

Yes, we have a lot of crime here, but like in any other city, crime is mostly concentrated in certain areas. It's not really about ethnicities or even economic level. It really seems to be more about whether you're in a neighborhood that takes care of each other or not.

All That Red & Black

This town loves the Red Raiders and they show it everywhere. You'll see a bunch of Cowboy stars and flags out and about too, but nothing compared to the Texas Tech support. We do have some UT fans, but we avoid 'em like goat-heads on our lawns.

It's a Little Slower Around Here

We have most of the big city conveniences, we just have fewer of them. Fewer museums, theaters, playhouses, etc. So you'll find your culture here, you just won't have as many choices on any given night.

Some of the Friendliest Folks Anywhere

People from Lubbock will generally give you a chance no matter who you are or what you look like. As long as you're nice to them, they'll be nice and helpful to you. If you're not nice, then they'll help you out of town. So, you get what you give.

Enjoy Lubbock

As mentioned above, we don't have a lot to enjoy, but what we do have is very enjoyable. Stick around long enough and we'll tell you about the cool things like hanging out by Big E's barbeque in the Depot District or where to find Hell's Gates.

Lubbock is a great place to visit, you just need the right tour guide.
