If you drove by the At Home off of W Loop 289 this Easter weekend, then you probably noticed a burnt car sitting in the parking lot. I saw it on Friday afternoon and decided to give Lubbock’s fire rescue a call to see what happened.

The fire occurred on Friday, April 15th, 2022 due to a mechanical problem with the car. The car ignited, burning everything from the front windshield to the back of the car before it was put out when the fire fighters arrived.

Looking at where the damage happened, it's shocking to see just how normal and untouched the front of the vehicle looks compared to the back. According to Lubbock Fire Rescue, nobody was injured and the fire was quickly put out.

When I drove past the store again on Sunday, April 17th, I noticed that the car was still in the parking lot. I called Lubbock Fire Rescue this morning to ask about the incident and asked who would be responsible to move the vehicle after an incident like this. The fire marshal informed me that it is the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner to remove the car from the store’s parking lot.

After finding that out, I gave At Home a call and asked them about the incident. According to one of the store representatives, they were not aware that the car was on fire on the day of the incident until the fire truck arrived to put it out. They also informed me that as of today, April 18th, the car has been removed from the store's parking lot.

Take a look at photos of the vehicle taken on Friday, April 15th, 2022:
