As a college student, I'm always on the lookout for scholarships to help me out with my tuition. And believe me, I've seen scholarships being offered for just about everything. They even have a scholarship for students not to go to college. But this is the first time I've heard of a school giving money to students just for using Twitter.

The University of Iowa's Henry B. Tippie School of Management is offering a $37,000 scholarship to hopeful students for "tweeting." To be more specific, the applicants must answer the essay question, "What makes you an exceptional Tippie Full-Time MBA and future MBA hire?" in Twitter-format, using 140 character (not words) or less. Due to confidentiality issues, the submission will not actually be posted on Twitter, but instead will be sent to the admissions office.

It's an interesting idea, but is it worth a full ride to an MBA? The idea behind this scholarship is to be able to sell yourself in a quick and concise manner, which I think is a great idea, especially if you don't have a lot of time to make a good first impression. Sometimes, a quick little "elevator pitch" may be all you have to land that job.

And with how prevalent social media is nowadays, I'm pretty sure this is not the last time we'll hear about these "Twitter scholarships."
