University Medical Center will be holding a special ceremony the first week of April for Child Abuse Prevention month.

It was previously reported that out of all other counties in the state of Texas Lubbock County has the second highest rate of child abuse. Aaron Davis with University Medical Center states that there is an average of three children per day in Lubbock County that are confirmed victims to abuse and neglect.

During this Pinwheel Ceremony providers and staff at University Medical Center will be placing pinwheels in the children's courtyard for the month of April to remind everyone about the victims of child abuse. The reason for pinwheels being placed in the children's courtyard is back in 2008 they were adopted as the national symbol for child abuse prevention.

This was due to Pinwheels for Prevention by Prevent Child Abuse America and their reasoning for pinwheels according to their website is that pinwheels exemplify a sense of childlike nature and lightheartedness. Along with pinwheels the Blue Ribbon is known internationally as the symbol for Child Abuse Awareness. The ceremony is just the start of UMC's efforts during the month of April as the y have partnered with local organizations in an attempt to share prevention awareness and strategies.

This will done through the Go Blue Lubbock campaign which will also be kicking off the month with their own ribbon cutting on Tuesday, April 4, at 9 a.m.. This Pinwheel Ceremony will be on Thursday, April 6, starting at noon and will last until 1 p.m. in the Children's Courtyard, which is located just in front of UMC Campus.

Huge list of "Cool Stuff" that kids in the 80's and 90's were all about.

Everything from the 80's and 90's screams "Cool!". Ok, looking back at photos of kids in their bright neon shorts and Hypercolor shirts where their armpits were pitted out, that really doesn't look all that "cool" today but if you were a kid back then, we sure felt like we knew style. Go through the list and see how many of these items you had in your room or used back in the day.
