Lubbock’s University Medical Center has received a sizeable grant which will allow for the completion of a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  The $100,000 grant comes from The Meadows Foundation and it will fund equipment and other purchases for the NICU through the UMC Foundation.

"It costs $35,000 to purchase one specially equipped bed for a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which is why the UMC Foundation has worked tirelessly to secure donations for the NICU project," said David Allison, president and CEO of UMC.

The new NICU will open next spring on the first floor of the East Tower at UMC.  According to UMC, the new NICU will be twice the size of the current NICU. It will also have private patient rooms for families and utilize the latest technology.
