UK Kids Discouraged From Sitting on Santa’s Lap
Well, it looks like some overly-concerned chaps in the United Kingdom are trying to ruin Christmas. And the scary thing is, I can easily see this happening in the US too.
Some officials and parents in the UK are trying to discourage children from sitting on Santa's lap. According to FOX 9 News, the buzz from recent high-profile sex abuse cases and the fact that some of the Santas have not had extensive background checks prompted the move. But it seems that the much larger majority of people say they have no problem with their kids sitting on Santa's lap and that these "safety measures" are going way too far:
"I'd sit on Santa's lap right now if he was here," said parent Jim Proulx. "We should be letting kids have fun and not worry about it. Santa is right there for everybody to look at -- unless we're sending them into a back room or something."
I wonder if the UK Santas are also being told to tell kids they can't have everything and to "size up" the kids' parents like our Santas are...
