A U.S. Representative and OB/GYN from Texas did more than sit on a health subcommittees late last month, he actually stepped in and saved a life.

Michael Burgess serves the 26th District of Texas in Washington and was doing so Wednesday, September 28, when he came upon a scene where a fellow representative  had pulled an unconscious man out of an elevator.

Burgess told NBCDFW that U.S. Representative Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania administered CPR while his staff retrieved an automatic external defibrillator.

The defibrillator apparently worked and a heart rate returned to the patient.

Burgess said he then helped keep the airway clear for about ten minutes while Murphy administered more chest compressions until paramedics arrived.

The status of the patient remains unknown and they were never identified.
