The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced nearly 300 million dollars in block grant funds for Texas this year.

The final Fiscal Year 2011 block grants will go to around 1,200 state and local governments under Community Development  Block Grants, or CDBG. Also awarded are HOME Investment Partnerships to produce low income housing, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, and the Emergency Shelter Grant Program for homeless shelters and homelessness prevention.

CDBG funds have been reduced by about $600 million from 2010, and the HOME program funding has been reduced by over $200 million nationwide.

Locally, Lubbock will receive nearly $2.1 million in CDBG funds, $1.1 million in HOME funds, and just over $101 thousand in Emergency Shelter grant funds.
