HUD, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will allocate over $3.2 million dollars across Texas public housing authorities to hire service coordinators to work with Section 8 families. The coordinators will assist Section 8 families in job training and finding employment opportunities.

"In today's economy, it's never been more critical to help families obtain the skills that lead to jobs," said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.  "With HUD's help, these housing agencies will be able to assist families in finding employment, increasing their earning potential and putting them on a path to self sufficiency".

Among the West Texas entities receiving money: Housing Authority of Lubbock will receive $39,300; the Housing Authority of Abilene will receive $48,300; the City of Amarillo will receive $36,000; the Housing Authority of San Angelo will receive $49,000 and the Midland County Housing Authority will receive $42,400.
