There are good reasons for weather professionals to pop-in and interrupt programming on television and radio when thunderstorms develop on the South Plains, and this weekend was no exception.

The video above was filmed Sunday, May 5th, 2019.

It's not easy to make the decision to go on-air and be included in a group known by many to be the only job where you can still be wrong 50 percent of the time and still have a job.

Forecasting the weather is not an easy thing to do, and forecasting severe weather is exponentially more challenging on the South Plains because of the unique topography associated with the geography.

But I digress. The point of this story is to show what happened near Tahoka during an outbreak of storms on Cinco de Mayo.

The images, courtesy of Terri Rickman, show one of many confirmed tornadoes which were produced by severe thunderstorm cells.

Next time you're watching your favorite national broadcast and one of the local weather pros pop-in to tell you something is going on outside, try to keep in mind that it could be happening right in your backyard or in the backyard of someone you love.
