Lubbock Police were called to the 5000 block of 70th Street at around 1 a.m. Monday morning following reports of possible vehicle burglaries in the area.

While officers were on their way, the victim, 52-year-old Jeff James, remained on the phone with dispatch. James confronted the suspects while still on the phone, and was shot by one of the suspects.

Officers arrived shortly after, while the 3 suspects attempted to drive away from the scene. All 3 were taken into custody without incident. James was later transported to UMC with serious injuries. At the last check, James was in stable condition.

2 of the suspects, 19-year-old Anthony Acosta and 17-year-old Ruben Arguijo, were transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where they face charges of aggravated assault.

The 3rd suspect, a juvenile, was transported to the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center.
