Three people are left critically injured after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 84 between Slaton and Lubbock.

Police said the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening when a pickup truck and a car approached each other from opposite directions. Both vehicles swerved into the median to avoid an accident, but hit each other in the process.

The top of the pickup had to be removed to get to the driver out of the car to be transported by AeroCare to be treated for injuries at the hospital.

Two other victims were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center in Lubbock.
