Is Lubbock Actually the ‘Armpit of America?’
It's not often when I'm befuddled by a complex conundrum that rattles my brain, but I recently saw a bold claim from someone on the internet about Lubbock, TX, that really made me think.
You see, someone threw out an opinion about the Hub City that I feel was not a fair assessment. Say what you want about our community, but I draw the line when you start including body-part comparisons.
Behold, the quote in question from one unnamed Redditor:
I felt compelled to prove this person wrong. Lubbock can be many things to many people, whether that's a thriving music/arts scene, a college town, a cuisine capital, etc.
Here are some things that are offered in Lubbock that might make it a little less 'armpit-y' than some might claim.
Buddy Holly Hall
There are always new and exciting things going on at the Buddy Holly Hall in Lubbock. From the latest comedy acts to live stage performances, it's guaranteed that you won't be bored at this performing arts location.
For the current list of upcoming events, you can always check out their event calendar online to schedule a time to see what's going on there either alone or with your family.
Museums In the Hub City
Lubbock is also home to many wonderful museums for lovers of all things science, wind power, airplanes, and more!
In fact, Lubbock boasts the world's largest non-governmental Vietnam War archive with over 30 million pages of historic material and 1,000 oral interviews with veterans across the years.
Live Music Venues
Lubbock is also a massive supporter of live music, having local artists and bands on display every single week throughout the city. Venues such as the Silver Bullet shed the spotlight on upcoming talent right here in West Texas.
The good news is that even if you aren't 100% interested in staring at live bands all evening, you can still enjoy delicious food with friends at popular places across town.
State Parks
Finally, for any nature-lovers out there, Lubbock is within just a few hours of some gorgeous state parks, like Caprock and Palo Duro. Take the kids and even the dog on some outdoor adventures in unforgettable West Texas trails. Just don't forget to pack extra water.
