You can't stop the golden arches, and they continue to pop-up all over Lubbock.

After years of the old Applebee's location in northwest Lubbock sitting vacant, we finally know what will take it's place.

Applebee's closed the restaurant located at 6501 4th Street back in October of 2017. There wasn't nearly as much development around at that point and it never seemed like that Applebee's location was very busy.

Still, the closing took some by surprise as employees were not given notice of the store closing. Instead they found out when they arrived for work and saw a sign on the door.

Since 2017, the building has just been sitting there. Empty.

But that is all about the change. On Monday, KAMC reported that McDonald's will soon open a new location where the Applebee's now stands.

The new McDonald's location will feature a dual-lane drive thru and is expected to open in October of 2025. According to KAMC, the cost of the project is $750,000.

McDonald's is also currently in the planning stages to build another location near Covenant Park in southwest Lubbock at 7628 82nd Street.

There are numerous McDonald's location all throughout Lubbock and seems like new locations will continue to open for the foreseeable future. With McDonald's opening a location in northwest Lubbock at the old Applebee's location, it could trigger even more development in the area.
