The Lost Children of Texas: Unsolved Amber Alerts Of Missing Texas Kids
We've all experienced it. We've all heard the alarm or the buzz of our phones when an Amber Alert is issued. But how successful are Amber Alerts and are they issued for every child that goes missing?
When a child goes missing and we see or hear about an Amber Alert that goes out, we all hope for a positive ending. But the truth is, not every child is found and not every child is reunited with family.
When Are Amber Alerts Issued?
According to NBCDFW.com, in 2023 more than 350,000 children went missing nationwide. Only 229 Amber Alerts were actually issued nationwide, including 49 here in Texas.
Different states have different criteria for a missing children's case to qualify for an Amber Alert. That includes the age of the child, whether there is enough information about the victim, if there is a reasonable belief that a child was taken, and whether law enforcement believes the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death according to NBCDFW.com.
How Effective Are Amber Alerts in Texas?
According to NBCDFW, in 2023 there was a total of 183 Amber Alerts issued. 26% of those cases were deemed successful. In 11 of the 49 cases, the abductors released the kidnapped child after the alert went out.
In Texas, there are still children missing today that had Amber Alerts go out. They are pictured below and some have pictures of what they could look like today. Please look through the pictures below and if you recognize anyone, contact law enforcement.
