Texas Tech Softball Advances to World Series After Massive Victory Over Florida
Red Raider softball is in the headlines yet again after they crushed the Florida Gators on Sunday, 16-7, in just five innings! This win was the cherry on the top of a massive season for Tech, propelling them into the Women's College World Series.
Texas Tech's Victory Over Florida
In case you missed it, Texas Tech absolutely crushed their three-game series against Florida over the weekend. Not only did the Red Raiders win two of the three games, they also clinched a run-rule victory on Sunday, ending the game in just five innings with a score of 16-7.
Here's how it happened. Texas Tech was hot out of the gate, starting the game with three runs at the top of the first. They lost the lead in the second inning, but thanks to a huge two-run homer from Mia Williams (her 24th of the season), they took the lead once again.
The rest of the game went like this: Another two-run homer, a third home run in the third, a fourth home run right after, a fifth home run in the fourth inning, and NiJaree Canady continued to throw gems that helped secure her 100th career win.
Not only do Texas Tech's 16 runs mark the highest-scoring game three Super Regional in NCAA history, it's also the highest scoring Super Regional series overall.
Texas Tech Heads to Women's College World Series
Following the series win against Florida, the Red Raiders advance to the Winners' Bracket of the Women's College World Series to face Mississippi State on Thursday at 11 a.m. CDT.
Texas Tech heads into the World Series at 56-7 overall while Mississippi State sits at 42-19.
