Texas Tech Softball Is On Fire Right Now Thanks to Two Players
Texas Tech softball has had a killer season this year, winning six games in a row as of April 29, and two star players are proving that the fun is just beginning.
Texas Tech Softball Wins!
In case you missed it, Red Raider softball defeated Tarleton State on Tuesday in a blowout victory, 12-2. The home game didn't even surpass five innings before Texas Tech took the "W" thanks to a remarkable team lineup.

Junior pitcher Kaitlyn Terry picked up her 20th win of the season on Tuesday. Not only that, but she also has now won a total of 20 games in three consecutive seasons. Sharing the spotlight is senior pitcher NiJaree Canady, who also has 20 wins. This makes them the first duo in Texas Tech history to each have 20 wins.
Red Raiders for USA Softball Finalists
On top of it all, the 25 finalists for 2026 Collegiate Player of the Year have been announced, and Texas Tech is represented not once, but twice—the first time in program history!
That's right, Kaitlyn Terry and NiJaree Canady are in the running for the first and fourth time consecutively!
Impressive Player Stats
Canady joins just one other active player with over 1,000 career strikeouts and was Texas Tech's first ever NFCA Pitcher of the Year in 2025. She has thrown 11 complete games with a 1.38 ERA (earned run average) and 179 strikeouts across 127 innings that she pitched.
Terry, an Arizona native, joins the finalists for her impressive 1.48 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 104 innings. At bat, she also has 10 home runs and 50 RBIs (runners batted in) and 10 stolen bases.
You can see each player's stats on the Texas Tech Athletics web page.
The 2026 Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced on May 28 prior to the Women's College World Series.
Red Raider softball heads into Thursday's game one against Baylor at 48 and 4 overall this season, winning 15 of the 16 total home games thus far.
