A Texas Tech soccer player has been named as a candidate for a prestigious trophy.

Tech sophomore forward Janine Beckie has been officially named as a candidate for the MAC Hermann Trophy. The announcement came on Tuesday, August 20th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in collegiate soccer. It is presented annually each January at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

The 2013 women’s preseason watch list includes 31 players from across the country. Beckie is the only player on the list from the Big 12 and one of three underclassmen.

Beckie netted 14 goals during the 2012 season, five of which were game-winners, and helped the Red Raiders advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native is the second Texas Tech student-athlete in three years to win Big 12 Rookie of the Year honors, and became Tech’s first NSCAA All-American in school history.

She enters the 2013 season as a Preseason All-Big 12 forward.

The Red Raiders begin their 2013 season on Friday at New Mexico at 7 p.m. They will host their home opener on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Colorado State.
