Texas Tech University Advances in Both National and Global Rankings
Texas Tech continues to shine across this great planet of ours after the U.S. News & World Report released the best global universities rankings in 2026, and wouldn't you know that TTU rose six spots from last year. How great is that!
Not only did Tech advance in the global rankings, the university also jumped one spot in the U.S.! Here's a breakdown.
Texas Tech Is Among the Best Global Universities
Here's a great icebreaker to really annoy your friends: Out of 2,604 universities across the globe, Texas Tech ranks #562. Let's hear it for the top 21%!
If you're curious, U.S. News rated Harvard as the #1 best global university. They were the only school on the list of 2,604 that received a score of 100. In fact, the top three spots are all American universities: Harvard (1st), MIT (2nd), and Stanford (3rd).
Where Is Texas Tech Ranked Nationally?
Texas Tech moved ahead one spot from last year on the list of top U.S. universities from #124 to #123. Hey, any progress is still progress.
Tech did, however, place in the top 50 in three categories in the U.S.:
- Agricultural sciences (33rd)
- Plant and animal science (41st)
- Space science (48th)
Texas Tech University President Lawrence Schovanec praised the unyielding work from faculty and staff to produce strong numbers:
The gains we have made across multiple disciplines demonstrate our commitment to academic excellence and innovation while providing solutions to challenges that affect communities across Texas and around the world.
Lastly, among the Big 12 Conference, Texas Tech continues to impress, earning a higher placement than Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Christian, and four others.
