Last Friday, I was walking back from class when I happened to notice a tent being set up in a field near the Jones SBC stadium. When I came back to class the following Monday, the whole field was filled with tents. Raiderville is back, and that could only mean one thing: we've got a major Tech game coming up.

Tech students have been camping out since Monday, all of them trying to get the best seat in the Jones for Saturday's game against the Texas A&M Aggies. From what I've seen, these students don't leave their tents except for class, and are set up with laptop computers and game tables to pass the time before the big game. To keep some order in "town," the students are required to check in at various points in the day to ensure their place in line.

I've heard about Raiderville in the past, but never really bothered to visit. After all, it's always popped up whenever we take on Texas or A&M, whichever team we're hosting that year. I figured this year was no different. But at Raiderville this year, (whose population was at over 550 students when I visited yesterday) the enthusiasm I've seen for this particular game is the most I've seen for a Tech game in recent memory. Probably because this will be the last time Texas Tech will face A&M as part of the same conference. (though that's not to say they may not meet up again in non-conference play)

I think this year's Raiderville is just a small indicator of just how pumped the fans are for this game, and I can already tell this one will be a wild one in the student section.

Sadly, I will not be able to attend the game, but you can bet I'll be following along on TV, watching our Red Raiders take down the Aggies one last time.
