Guns Up! Texas Tech Wins Gold At World Championships
Let's give it up for the Texas Tech Spirit Program as the Pom and Cheer Squads destroyed the competition, winning gold in world championships and a second national championship, respectively!
Hip, hip, hooray!
Texas Tech Pom Squad
On Friday, April 24, the Texas Tech University (TTU) Pom Squad claimed gold at the 2026 International Cheer Union World Championships.
This competition, held in Orlando, Florida, tested the mettle of thousands of athletes in over 50 countries in their mastery over various cheer and dance categories.
Texas Tech Pom Coach Erin Alvarado said that performing on such a momentous stage is an experience like none other:
We always tell our students, you're representing a much bigger community than you'll ever understand, and that's even more magnified when you're on an international stage.
Alvarado added that people from all over the world are probably Texas Tech fans who may have never even heard of the university prior to the competition.
Here's the full routine that won them the gold that was posted on the Texas Tech Pom Squad Facebook page!
Texas Tech Cheer Squads
If this wasn't proof enough of how impressive Tech athletes are, this massive victory comes just two weeks after the university's cheer squads won their second national championship.
Each spring, the Texas Tech CoEd cheerleaders compete at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) National Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championships.
It just so happens that TTU cheer are the 2025 and 2026 national champions! It's also the small CoEd group's third national championship title in a row.
You can visit the Texas Tech Spirit Program website to see the full list of scores that secured the national title.
Here's to Texas Tech continuing to pave the way for the next generation of champions!
