A group of choristers with a particular ailment will perform in Lubbock this week.

The 15-member Aphasia Choir will perform songs from different genres such as religious, classical, pop, and folk.

The Aphasia Choir is organized by the Texas Tech Health Science Center’s School of Allied Health Sciences’ Stroke/Aphasia program.

Aphasia is an impairment of one’s language ability, and can be caused by head injury or stroke.

Studies have shown that music, melody, and rhythm, along with other speech therapies, can help those with aphasia or other language disorders.

The Aphasia Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 7th at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ, located at 1701 Quaker Avenue, and attendees can come in through the Unity Center entrance. There is no cost to attend.
