Wreck ‘Em: Who Is Texas Tech’s New Masked Rider?
In case you missed it, Texas Tech University has welcomed their 65th Masked Rider earlier in April in a beloved tradition dating back to 1954.
Who is Texas Tech's New Masked Rider?
Allow me to introduce you to Sofie Jones, a Houston native and third-generation Red Raider who is officially the university's 65th Masked Rider.
Check out the Facebook page applauding the newest face of Texas Tech tradition:
Jones is no stranger to the saddle, as she has been riding horses since the age of 3. Her passion for horse riding brought her all the way from barrel racing and equestrian events to Texas Tech's animal science degree path.

The new Masked Rider continues to make the university proud by being an Honors College student and an active member of the Texas Tech Rodeo Team.
When it comes to caring for horses, that never seemed to slow her down when it comes to academics. "Taking care of them has never really felt like work to me," Jones said. "I actually feel like it helps me with my strive for school."
New Rider, New Horse, and New Mascot!
Following the Transfer of the Reins ceremony, Jones dons the mask after paying respect to the previous Masked Rider, Rose Rosas.
Not only will Jones take the reins this season as the newest Masked Rider, she will do so atop a brand new horse. "Matador" will have the honor of galloping onto each home game now that Centennial Champion has retired.
Oh, and it's important to add that Texas Tech's classic mascot known around the world, Raider Red, will also be transferring... hosts? After three years, the combined effort of Zach Van Horn and Wayland Damron have brought the loving influence of Raider Red to the masses with the iconic pistols and bushy mustache.
Traditions like the Masked Rider and Raider Red are what keep school pride alive. They provide faces to the institution that fans of all ages can root for. We all just hope that these mascots can continue to blaze new trails for years and years to come!
