Texas Students Will Know What Universities Will Accept Them Before Applying
High school students in Texas can now see what state universities will accept them before they even apply.
To be honest, this would have removed A LOT of stress from my shoulders when I was a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed high-schooler applying to colleges. Sure, I only applied to one school and literally put all of my eggs in one basket... but, that's neither here nor there.
Acceptation Before Application
According to the Texas Tribune, the Lone Star State has revealed a new tool that allows high school students to actually see which public universities would accept them based on their class rank, GPA, and STAAR Test scores.
This tool, called Direct Admissions (I would have preferred the "bippity-bappity-boo-this-school's-for-you" tool, but we can't have everything), is meant to make the college application process easier for students by removing some common stress-inducing steps.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board stated that as early as the end of a student's junior year of high school, they can plug in their class rank and scores to the Direct Admissions site. This will then allow them to see the full list of universities that will accept them without having to submit a formal application.
The Tribune includes that, so far, 31 public universities are participating in the Direct Admissions tool, including big ones like UT and Texas A&M.
The good news? Even if a university doesn't show up on a student's direct admissions list, they can still apply the good ol' fashioned way and wait with bated breath and minor panic attacks with every piece of mail received for the next four weeks... good times.
