It's almost time to send the kids back to school, but this year, the buses might look a little bit different. Namely, they might have a big ad for pizza or a bank plastered on the side.

More and more school districts in Texas are considering using school buses as a means of selling advertising, in order to increase their much-needed funds. Galveston and New Braunfels have both started placing ads on their school buses. And it's not just Texas. Nearly half a dozen other states are also resorting to selling ad space on their buses.

In some people's minds, this is a really bad idea. They seem to think that it sends the message that their children's education can be bought by the highest bidder, or something like that. But honestly, I don't see a problem with putting an ad on a school bus. Just take a look around Texas Tech. There's ads all over the place; on our buses, at our stadiums, posted all over the halls.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and these schools have been in desperate times for a while. These schools need money, and like it or not, it looks like advertising is the only way for them to get it.

Now, if those advertisers start sponsoring the textbooks and curriculum, then I'll be worried...
