A Texas Ranger from Lubbock has received the Melvin Martin First Responder of the Year award. Scott Stevenson, a Texas Ranger with the Texas Department of Public Safety, was given the award Wednesday, Sept. 12.

According to a press release, the award is named after retired Abilene Police Chief Melvin Martin, who also presented the award to Stevenson in person.  Ranger Stevenson is an Abilene native who graduated from the DPS academy in 1996.
