Texas Police Say They’ve Arrested ‘Prolific Identity Thief’
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Police in North Texas say they've arrested a "prolific identity thief" who was found with 50 credit cards, Social Security cards and five backpacks filled with mail belonging to others.
Arlington police said in a statement Monday that Alfred Cruz was arrested over the weekend along with a woman following a traffic stop.
Officers who searched their vehicle also found laptop computers, victims' medical files, drivers' licenses and cellphones.
Charges against Cruz include fraudulent use of identifying information. He was being held Tuesday at the Arlington jail on a $12,500 bond. His companion also was being held.
Police Sgt. VaNessa Harrison told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram it will take a while to determine just how many people were victimized.
Online jail records did not indicate whether Cruz has an attorney.
