Pets, just like children, can bring you the greatest joy, but also can be the root of your daily stress. I, along with 60% of all of Texas, can share in this sentiment as we all own at least one pet. So, let's take a look at some other weird facts about Texas pet owners.

U.S. Vs. Texas Pets

Before we get to Texas stats, it's important to know that about two-thirds of all Americans own at least one pet. Dogs take the number-one spot as the most common pet (surprise, surprise). Although cats come in second place, other popular pets across the country include fish, birds, hamsters, and rabbits.

In a blow to cat-lovers, feline pets are not very popular in Texas. In fact, of the 60% of Texas households that own a pet, only 20% include cats.

Texas Pet Owner Facts to Scratch Your Dog To

In Texas, nearly 25% of all pet owners say they prefer pets to children... Does this worry anyone out there? Pets are certainly cheaper in the long run, I suppose.

If that doesn't concern you, then this might. Over two-thirds of Texas pet owners say they are more concerned with their pet's diet than their own. Because why would you eat healthy to live 80+ years when you can spend your money on your dog's diet who will live less than a quarter of that?...

As I said earlier, Texas is a dog-lover state, with 63% of pet owners having a canine companion. If you want to get even more specific, there are roughly 1.7 dogs for every dog owner, meaning that, if you own a dog in Texas, you probably own more than one.

For those wondering, the most common dog breed in Texas is the French Bulldog, while the most common cat breed is the Persian cat. Remember Snowbell from Stuart Little? He was a Persian cat, if you don't know what they look like. See?
