Texas Governor Greg Abbott has recently designated both the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations.

Both groups are known for their support for and spreading of Islam. But one claims they are simply advocates for acceptance rather than a dangerous militaristic group.

New Terror Organizations in Texas

According to the recent press release from the Office of the Texas Governor, CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood are based upon imposing Sharia law through force. Gov. Abbott continues with the following remarks:

The actions taken by the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR to support terrorism across the globe and subvert our laws through violence, intimidation, and harassment are unacceptable.

 

What is the Muslim Brotherhood?

The Muslim Brotherhood is claimed to have been founded in 1928 in Egypt. Its founder, Hassan al Banna, held strong that the core beliefs of Islam should be spread to all aspects of life, religion, and government.

There are many different forms that have sprouted across the world over the decades, and each branch operates independently towards their unified goal of a purely Islamic society.

According to the U.S. Congress, the Muslim Brotherhood is a "militant Islamist organization with affiliates in over 70 countries."

One of the more common acts of governmental interference was the assassination of Egypt's Prime Minister in 1948, Mahmud Fahmi Nokrashi, by the hand of a Muslim Brother.

What is CAIR?

The Council on American-Islamic Relations holds to their vision and advocacy of providing a mutual understanding of Islam and civil rights for all American Muslims, according to the CAIR website.

CAIR's affairs in U.S. government have aimed at monitoring legislation to ensure it is fair to the American Muslim community.

By sponsoring voter registration events and providing diversity training workshops to employers and educators across the country, they hope to educate the public about Islam and the Muslim faith in America.
