Police: Texas Mother Sold Her Son to Pay Off Drug Debts
A Texas mother is accused of selling her 7-year-old son to help pay off thousands of dollars in drug debt.
Twenty-nine-year-old Esmeralda Garza of Corpus Christi was arrested last Friday after special agents with Texas DPS searched a home in Nueces County and found her 7-year-old son in a stranger’s home.
The agents soon discovered that Garza had sold her 7-year-old to another woman for $2,500 to help settle drug debt she and her boyfriend owed. It’s reported that Garza was also in the process of selling her two daughters, aged 2 and 3.
Garza is charged with selling a child, a third degree felony, and faces years behind bars. Two other adults were also arrested, but their charges are unknown.
