A man in Texas died over the weekend after being mauled to death by dogs, his own dogs. The victim, identified as Jose "Eddie" Castillo was 45 years old.

Dogs Maul Owner To Death in Galveston

According to People.com, two pit bull-type dogs attacked Castillo in his backyard. Deputies with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office responded around 6:30 after calls were made about the attack. When authorities arrived, one of the dogs was still attached to the man's arm according to People.com.

When deputies arrived, one of the dogs was still latched onto the man’s arm. “In an effort to stop the attack and protect the victim, a deputy discharged his firearm, striking the dog in the center mass,” the sheriff’s office said in the release. The animal released the victim and retreated to a corner of the yard.

One neighbor reportedly attempted to stop one of the dog by stabbing and poking the dog and the dog still wouldn't stop attacking. Both dogs were reportedly euthanized due to the extent of their injuries.
