9-Year-Old Texas Girl Dies After Being Left Alone In A Hot Car For Hours

We've heard over and over again from officials, never leave your children alone in a hot car. Sadly, there is now another example of why the message of not leaving a child alone in a hot car is repeated time and again.

A Texas girl is dead because she was left alone in a hot car for hours in Harris County. Law enforcement is still investigating what happened, but what we know, is already terrible.

Mother Left Young Girl Along In a Hot Car While She Worked

According to ABC News, the 9-year-old girl was left alone in the car while her 36-year-old mom went to work. The child was left in a white Toyota Camry on Tuesday from about 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

According to Harris County Sheriff's Deputies, the mother left the girl with the windows cracked, a sunshade on the front of the car, and some water. The mother returned to the car at the end of her shift and found her child unresponsive.

The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

No Charges Yet

According to ABC News, officials are waiting for autopsy results and are continuing to speak to the mother. They will decide whether or not to press charges after the autopsy results come back.

Children Dying in Hot Cars

According to ABC News, the death of the 9-year-old girl marked the third hot car death in Texas in the last four days. Nationwide, at least 13 children have died after being left alone in a hot car.
