Texas DPS Trooper Escapes Death in Big Spring

A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety narrowly escaped death on Tuesday, Mar. 24, 2020, in a drunk driving incident.

Texas DPS reports the trooper pulled over 66-year-old John Lyons at about 8:30 a.m. near mile post 312 on FM 700 in Big Spring for a traffic violation.

While the trooper was standing outside his vehicle, a car driven by 34-year-old Lindsay Woods of Big Spring veered off the road and crashed into both the trooper’s vehicle and Lyon’s vehicle.

The trooper managed to escape injury by jumping into his vehicle at the last second, but Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene. Woods was arrested and charged for intoxication manslaughter.
