Texas Congressman Detained For Appearing Drunk At An Airport
Texas Congressman Michael McCaul is apologizing and attempting to clear the air about an incident that occurred on November 4 at Dulles Airport outside of Washington, D.C. An incident that led McCaul being detained and charged with being drunk in public.
According to the Texas Tribune, McCaul was supposed to be flying to Texas on November 4th when he decided to take an Ambien in order to sleep on the flight. According to a statement from McCaul, he mixed taking Ambien with alcohol.
McCaul says that mixing the medication with alcohol made him "dazed and disoriented" and led to him missing his flight and he also locked himself out of his own phone according to the Texas Tribune. In a statement, McCaul apologized and said the incident was a "poor decision".
"Two weekends ago, I made a mistake — one for which I take full responsibility,” McCaul said in a statement. “I missed a flight to Texas and found myself disoriented in the airport. This was the result of a poor decision I made to mix an Ambien — which I took in order to sleep on the upcoming flight — with some alcohol.”
“I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the officers who intercepted me that evening,” he said. “This incident does not reflect who I am and who I strive to be. As a human, I am not perfect. But I am determined to learn from this mistake and, God willing, make myself a better person.”
McCaul was released shortly after the incident and after being detained.
