Anson City Manager Arrested, Accused of Soliciting A Minor Online
The City Manager of Anson is facing serious charges after being arrested by the Department of Homeland Security.
According to KAMC, Ervin "Sonny" Campbell was recently arrested in Texas and is accused of soliciting sex from an undercover officer who was posing as a minor on Facebook Marketplace.
According to court documents, the Department of Homeland Security and the Abilene Police Department conducted the sting on Facebook Marketplace. The undercover officer posted an ad on Facebook for "Massage and fun". Campbell reportedly asked the undercover cop her age, which the undercover replied 15. Campbell also said he could get into trouble.
Campbell then, according to the documents, contacted the account and inquired about services, agreeing to pay $200 in person for sexual services.
The documents state Campbell also sent a picture to the undercover officer and still went ahead with the intended meetup after the officer said they were 15. Messages from Campbell acknowledge he “could get in trouble” and asked if the undercover account was “a cop”.
According to KAMC, the messaging went on to later include an agreement for Campbell to pay $500 for sex with the undercover officer playing a 15-year-old girl and her "16-year-old friend".
Campbell reportedly drove to a location to meet the two teens, but was met by law enforcement instead. He had condoms, $652 in cash, and two cell phones.
Campbell was arrested Thursday and remains in the Taylor County Jail.
