Texas Ranks Higher Than California in Average IQ Scores
The moment has finally come. At last, we can see just how smart Texas is compared to other states. Are we a state of brainiacs or should we just stick to our farming? Well, the numbers will blow your mind, no matter how big or small it is.
What are IQ Tests?
Before I share the results, let's talk about what IQ actually is and how we measure it. You see, IQ, or intelligence quotient, is a measurement of one's intellect based on factors like mental age and actual age.
IQ scores are determined by dividing someone's mental age by their actual age and multiplied by 100.

Highest IQ by State
The highest average IQ was recorded in none other than Massachusetts with a score of 104.3. I'm sure that may have surprised some people, but what's truly shocking is the state with the lowest IQ. No, it isn't Texas, but pretty close.
Mississippi took the bottom of the list as the U.S. state with the lowest average IQ at 94.2. This isn't a majorly drastic change that you might think, given that of all 50 states, the top and bottom spots are only separated by 10 IQ points.
Texas' Average IQ Score
Here we go, among all 50 states, Texas' average IQ score was exactly 100.0. Not bad at all, especially since Texas has the highest average score of all southern states.
Something that might also be interesting is California's average score. They come in on the list at 95.5 average IQ. That's three and a half points lower than Hawaii's average.
