Teddy Bear Drive Is Underway — Can You Help?
The disease is called opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome, or OMS. Lubbock police officer Brooks Jennings, whose daughter Alexa has the disease, explains what it is.
"It's an auto-immune disease where the immune system turns and attacks the brain, instead of attacking whatever in the body it should be attacking…just a horrible, horrible disease. Currently there’s no cure. They’re working toward one," Jennings told KFYO.
Officer Jennings and Alexa are collecting new Teddy bears for children who are in the hospital during the holiday season, and they are raising funds for OMS research. You can drop off Teddy Bears and other stuffed animals at Custom Electronics at 5005 34th Street or Wild West Harley Davidson at 5702 58th Street.
