Texas Tech Softball Drops Game One of Women’s College World Series Championships
In the high-stress matchup between Texas Tech and UT in the Finals opener round of the 2026 Women's College World Series (WCWS), the Red Raiders put up a solid start before ultimately falling to the Longhorns, 7-3, on Wednesday.
Game two of the WCWS Finals begins Thursday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
Texas Tech vs. UT: Game One
Texas Tech was hot out of the gate on Wednesday with a massive home run to start the game by senior Mihyia Davis — her tenth of the season.
It wasn't until the top of the fifth inning when Tech would score their only other runs in the game with a two-run homer from junior Mia Williams. The Longhorns, however, were able to score a whopping five runs in the bottom of the first to secure the lead right off the bat.

Red Raider Pitching Not Focused
Something that stood out to many fans in last night's game was the lack of focus from Texas Tech's pitching, despite having one of the best lineups in the sport this season.
Kaitlyn Terry allowed four runs on four hits in just 1 1/3 innings to start the game while star pitcher NiJaree Canady allowed one run on two hits as relief in 1 1/3 innings as well.
In her 2026 World Series pitching debut, sophomore Samantha Lincoln threw 3 1/3 innings after Canady and Terry, allowing two runs on four hits.
This just wasn't like the Terry and Canady that Tech fans have seen dominate the field all season, so whether it was a lack of focus or nerves getting the better of them, Coach Gerry Glasco stated that the team needs to lock into their priorities and keep the momentum going.
After all, the Red Raiders have yet to lose two games back-to-back all season. Coach Glasco said, "We've got to refocus, readjust, and get momentum in our dugout and get tomorrow's game. That's all that matters is tomorrow's game. If we do that and live to see another day, it will be a fun game 3."
Game two begins Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and will be available to watch live on ESPN.
Texas Tech just needs to show us that power and impressive defense that we've seen from them all season for the next two games. That's it, just two more wins and then the Red Raiders secure their first World Series Championship!
