Spur Police Chase Ends in Deadly Crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety said that a deadly crash happened west of Spur on FM 2794 early Sunday morning.

Spur Police Officers attempted to stop a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup on FM 2794 and the driver evaded the stop. As the vehicle traveled up to a sharp left curve, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to traveling too fast.

As a result of the crash, the passenger, 49-year-old Matthew L. Garcia of Ralls, was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene.

The driver, 33-year-old Randell W. Gibson of Spur, was arrested for evading. DPS said alcohol may have been a factor, and neither Gibson nor Garcia were wearing seat belts.
