South Plains Mall Celebrating ‘Cheers to 50 Years’ Anniversary

A Lubbock legend is celebrating its 50th anniversary of being in business. It's the South Plains Mall.

The South Plains Mall is celebrating 50 years of bringing service to Lubbock area residents with their "Cheers to 50 Years" celebration. The South Plains Mall is a staple of Lubbock and anyone who visits with an urge to shop since it first opened in 1972. The South Plains Mall will be hosting different events that will honor the 50 years that the mall's been open and will showcase everything it has to offer, such as fashion, art, food, and just giving back to the community.

The South Plains Mall is asking for shoppers to give back with their "Get One, Give One Denim & Donation Drive" event. The event is for shoppers to bring their gently used or new denim jeans to the Grand Court and be thanked in the process by multiple retailers. Along with donating clothes the mall will also be accepting monetary donations to the Children's Home of Lubbock from July 30th through August 27th by simply texting GIVE to 806-305-0400.

Along with giving back, the mall will be taking hosting an exhibit sponsored by the Museum of Texas Tech University with an exhibit of 70s fashions worn across the South Plains at the height of their popularity. Since this exhibit is a blast from the past, the mall will also be taking submissions for residents' favorite memories at the mall so they can showcase them on a digital Birthday Memory Board.

The mall will be having a Birthday Back-to-School Bash Saturday, July 30th from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.. The bash will have many events throughout the day, such as balloon animals, face painting, a fashion show, open model casting call and even a chance to meet Texas Tech University's Masked Rider. And don't forget the Chick-fil-A $.59 chicken sandwiches on that day.

The timing of this month-long celebration will coincide with Texas' tax-free weekend August 5th-7th and will make for some great deals on items that might already be marked down.
