An area government office will begin closing earlier due to budget cuts. Social Security Offices will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, cutting 30 minutes from each day, effective Monday, August 15th.

The Social Security Administration says that agency employees will continue to work their regular hours, but the reduced public window will allow them to complete their service with the public without incurring overtime.

Many visits can be avoided by visiting www.socialsecurity.gov or by calling their toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213.

This comes shortly after reduced hours were implemented at Lubbock-area post offices last weekend.
