Are you ready to be "beamed up?"

The Lubbock Arts Festival is this weekend at the Lubbock Civic Center. The theme is "Out Of This World" with art and opportunities with a space-vibe. Now, let's keep in mind that that's the featured theme and there will still be plenty of chances to view all kinds of art in all kinds of mediums.

The Lubbock Arts Festival offers an incredible opportunity to expose your children and family to the arts at both an entry and expert level. There's plenty to keep the kids excited while still bringing plenty visually to the experienced art lover. There are also projects, shopping experiences and more.

This year's festival will have a special slant for those of you into space, sci-fi and other excursions into the stars above. One of the things being put together to welcome fans to the Lubbock Arts Festival is a giant UFO photo-op/prop. You'll be able to stand underneath this otherworldly ship and be "beamed up" in your picture. The prop itself will be over 12 feet tall with fabric "beams" as part of the design.

The photo op is the work of two men: Jon Whitfill and Chad Plunket. They’ve designed other objects for the Lubbock Arts Festival before, including an epic 15 by 17-ft dragonfly. Before we give you a preview of their work, let's look at everything you need to know about this weekend's events.
