Winter Storm Alert: Closures and Delays In And Around Lubbock

As we get closer to the winter storm entering our area, several school districts and area businesses are announcing delays and closures beginning Friday morning. Even Texas Tech University has changed the game time of Saturday's game against Houston to a 1 p.m. tip off at the United Supermarkets Arena.

Below is a list of closures and delays starting Friday, January 23 in the Lubbock area. It's important to remember that this list isn't complete and other school districts and business may announce their plans without being added to the list below.

Lubbock-Area Schools and Business Announcing Closures and Delays

As of 11:30am on Friday, January 23:

• Lubbock ISD: Closed Friday
• Frenship ISD: Closed Friday
• Lubbock-Cooper ISD: Early Release- Elementary Campuses Release at 12:30, Secondary Release at 12:45
• Shallowater ISD: Early Release 1pm
• Texas Tech University: Closing at Noon
• LCU: Closing at Noon
• South Plains College: Closing at Noon
• Early Learning Centers of Lubbock: Closed Friday
• Harmony Science Academy Lubbock- Closed Friday
• Catholic Charities Main Office- Closed/ Resale Center Closed Friday and Saturday
• Texas College of Cosmetology- Closed Friday
• Premier High School Lubbock Briercroft: Closed Friday
• Abernathy ISD: Will operate on an early release schedule on Friday, January 23, with dismissal at 12:30 p.m., with buses running at 12:45. All-Region Band events have been moved up, and participating students are expected to return to the district around 2:00 p.m.
• Amherst ISD: Early Release at Noon Friday
• Anton ISD: Early Release at Noon Friday
• Brownfield ISD: Early Release at Noon on Friday
• Cotton Center ISD: Early Releast at 12:45 p.m.
• Denver City ISD: PK-5 grades will be released at 12:15 p.m., and 6-12 grades will be released at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 23rd. Buses will run.
• Floydada ISD: All Floydada Collegiate ISD campuses will have a noon release
• Hale Center ISD: Out at 12:00 p.m. on Friday
• Kingdom Preparatory Academy: Closed Friday
• Littlefield ISD: Closed Friday
• Levelland ISD: ABC, Capital & South will release at noon. LMS and LHS will release at 12:30 p.m.
• Lubbock Christian School: Closed Friday
• New Deal ISD: Will release at 1:00 p.m. on Friday
• New Home ISD: Will release at 1:00 p.m. on Friday
• Ropes ISD: Will release at noon on Friday, January 23, 2026
• Roosevelt ISD: Will release at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Buses run at 1:00 p.m.
• Trinity Christian School: Closed Friday
• Slaton ISD: Will dismiss on Friday, January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. All buses will run at 1:00 p.m.
• Smyer ISD: Closed Friday
• Snyder ISD: Early/Staggered Release Starting at 11am for Pre-K. Check School for exact time.
• Southland ISD: Will release schools at 12:00 p.m. on January 23, 2026, due to weather.
• Southcrest Christian School: Closed Friday
• Sundown ISD: Will release at noon on Friday
• Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center: Classes and on-campus operations are cancelled.

• Whiteface ISD: Will be releasing at 12:00 p.m.

• Diocese of Lubbock facilities at 4th Street: Activities cancelled or postponed
• Guadalupe Youth & Family Center of the Diocese of Lubbock: Activities cancelled or postponed
• Mrs. Wood's Learning Spot: Closed Friday
• My Little Playhouse Brownfield: Closing at 12 p.m.
• My Little Playhouse Lubbock: Closed
• Southwest Aqua Sports: Closing early Friday, January 23 and closed all day Saturday, January 24.
• YWCA (Childcare and Preschool): Closing early at 3:00 p.m. on Friday
