If you're a fan of the show Breaking Bad, then this story may sound eerily familiar...

Picture this: The owner of a popular chicken joint is caught arranging drug deliveries with an undercover FBI agent. And it doesn't help that the hapless restaurateur already has a history of run-ins with the feds.

No, this isn't the plot of an award-winning TV show starring Bryan Cranston. Instead, this is the reality of one business owner in San Antonio who's in hot oil after these deliveries came to light.

Finger Lickin' Drug Bust

Jonathan Lumbreras, 32, co-owner of a San Antonio chicken restaurant, Pollos Asados "El Gordo", fell into the FBI's trap, revealing his drug-distributing side gig.

According to his arrest warrant affidavit, Lumbreras was speaking with an undercover FBI agent pretending to be an interested buyer. The two communicated through an encrypted messaging app called Threema.

The two soon agreed to set up a delivery at a local McDonald's where Lumbreras sent a separate deliveryman to the exchange (covering his bases, smart).

Unfortunately for our chicken-slinging drug kingpin, FBI agents waited for the accomplices at the meetup spot and seized the package before it could be delivered to the "buyer".

During a search in one of the accomplice's vehicles, over 2 1/2 lbs of cocaine was found, along with 40 other smaller packages.

Out of the Frying Pan and Back into the Fire

This wasn't the first time Lumbreras was charged with drug possession, as he, along with 12 others across Texas were arrested back in 2021, also on federal charges of drug trafficking.

In fact, he was still on supervised release from that arrest during this most recent altercation... oops.

Lumbreras has been indicted for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

If convicted of all five felony counts, Lumbreras could face up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine.

Dangerous Texas Gangs And Their Rivals

The rise of gang culture in Texas has been a steady one

The more prevalent gangs are, the more likely the average citizen is to cross paths with affiliated members. As the population of Texas has increased in size and diversity, so have the gangs of the Lone Star state.

If you're not mixed up in organized crime shenanigans, then you're probably safe. But as the old adage goes, the more you know the better prepared you are.
