The Legacy Play Village in Lubbock is expected to be closed for some time in 2018 for repairs and possible renovations.

The Legacy Play Village was built by volunteers in 2002 at McAlister Park in West Lubbock. However, the elaborate playground, a popular attraction for local kids, has been vandalized many times over the years, and some of the play structures are in need of repair.

Monday July 16, Friends of Legacy Play Village Inc. announced plans for a new Legacy to be built or renovated by 2019.

According to the Legacy Play Village website, plans include new construction materials, new play features, and the playground should be more available to kids with special needs.

It’s not clear whether an entirely new Legacy Play Village will be built, or if the existing park will simply be renovated. The website says that a Design Day is scheduled for fall 2018.
