A Texas Tech baseball player has been drafted by a California team.

Junior shortstop Kelby Tomlinson was drafted in the 12th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants Tuesday afternoon.

With the draft of Tomlinson, the Red Raiders have now had at least one player drafted in 24 consecutive drafts dating back to 1988. Tech is also one of three big 12 programs to have at least one player drafted in the top 14 rounds every year since the conference began in 1997.

Tomlinson was the 13th overall pick for the Giants in this year's draft.
