Police: Texas Driver Who Hurt 12 Suffering ‘Mental Crisis’
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Police in San Antonio say a man suffering a "mental crisis" struck about 10 vehicles with his pickup truck, injuring 12 people and only coming to a stop after striking a home.
Police Sgt. Douglas Greene told the San Antonio Express-News that the man somehow hurt himself before driving erratically along a half-mile stretch of road Tuesday in the southwestern part of the city.
The 12 people who were taken to hospitals included seven children.
The unidentified man was being held under an emergency detention at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Greene says witnesses told officers that it appeared the man was purposefully striking the vehicles on Loop 13 near Kelly Field.
The suspect was pinned inside his pickup after striking the home but was combative with emergency personnel.
